Welcome to Lactating Coconuts! I am extremely excited to launch this allergy lifestyle blog! My hope for this blog is to be a resource – for recipes, products, ideas, and encouragement to anyone dealing with allergies in their household.
When our daughter was first diagnosed with food allergies at 4 months old, it was both a punch in the gut and an answer to our prayers. We knew she had been suffering, so as parents, we were relieved to have answers and a way to help her feel better. But it also meant major adjustments for our family. As her allergies have changed, we’ve had to adapt. We’ve learned so much, but we know we are still only at the beginning of this lifelong journey.
Throughout the past two years, I’ve struggled with feelings of inadequacy and guilt, and I was extremely overwhelmed with the changes and struggles we faced in the initial weeks and months. Even though we have an amazing and supportive family, I still felt so alone in this situation. Ultimately, our daughter’s health and wellbeing falls on my shoulders (well, mine and my husband’s shoulders – thank goodness his are broader than mine!), so I began scouring the internet for ideas and help. While there are a few places to find sporadic articles and Pinterest to help with recipes, I still felt let down by the lack of resources available.
This is where the idea of Lactating Coconuts was born. I write from a place of love, hope, and understanding. I write to help other moms, dads, kids, adults, who are dealing with allergies in their daily lives. I write to try to fill a void, as I am constantly coming across people asking all the same questions I’ve asked and continue to ask.
