Homemade Taco Seasoning

Store bought taco seasonings are super convenient – the only problem: our favorite taco seasoning had corn starch as an ingredient. Since corn is one of our daughter’s allergies, I began experimenting with making our own – we had almost all of the same ingredients in our cupboard already anyways.

For a long time, my experimenting was throwing in a little cumin here, a little chili powder there, some onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper, maybe some of this or some of that, but I never actually kept track of how much of each ingredient I was using. Until now!

Instead of throwing things together, I finally took the time to measure and write it all down. Now I have an actual taco seasoning recipe to use! Even better – it’s all mixed together in a jar and will save me time going forward when I make tacos! Anything to save us time, right?!

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried cilantro flakes

DIRECTIONS

  1. Put all the spices together in a bowl and stir together.
  2. Store in an airtight container.

I hope you enjoy this taco seasoning! It only takes a few minutes to put together – and it looks oh so pretty stored in a mason jar!
